Paul presented to Agforce members in Western Queensland on a particular future for agriculture
The key points were:
- Farmers need to focus more on their customer and the ultimate consumer.
- The high margin customer of the future will be wealthier and far more interested in information on the food and fibre products they purchase.
- New technologies and data systems are giving the retailer far more ability to supply that information in bricks and mortar stores as well as direct delivery to homes via web and mobile systems. Improved sensing systems on the farm are giving more capacity for farmers to collect and analyse data.
- Farmers can choose to use these technologies in one of three ways. To improve their own productivity, to supply information to the customer, or both. Supply of information to the customer may be forced on to farmers.
