Paul presented on preparing for the future of Ag Tech now

The main points were:

  1. Build multiple pictures of what the future might look like, including ones that look unlikely.
  2. Understand the long arc of technology narratives so you understood what stage the technology you are looking at is presently at and what are its characteristics.
  3. Understand the long arc of technology narratives so you understood the users position in the explorers/villagers/town planner model.
  4. Look for clear adoption models of product substitution, platforms built on top of platforms, ecosystem innovation (the app store model) and distributed commoditised technologies that take advantage of being local.
  5. Think about how people gain expertise in a world where expert plus AI is better than expert or AI alone.
  6. Think about how technologies change business models and practices. e.g. what does getting more data on individual plants or animals mean to new possible business models.
  7. Think about your customer’s customer and how the interaction between how they are changing and new technologies alters business models and demand for information.
